The concept for Different Roads was born of a conversation between a person born in England, someone who moved to Maine from New York City and a descendant of Irish coal miners from Johnstown, PA. They spoke of special and particular food memories. Dishes influenced by middle eastern spices, the best meatloaf on the planet, and German and Greek dishes. Dishes that have the potential to get lost as time passes.
Here in Portland, Maine, we’re lucky to have so many great restaurants serving homemade dishes, based on historical and family recipes, and community members working to preserve their own culinary memories. Fall is the perfect time to celebrate the countries and recipes and people who make Portland so very special.
Through Different Roads, Portland and Maine restaurants and food makers will be bringing world cuisine and traditional recipes to Harvest on the Harbor. We will be announcing the full lineup of participants later in September.
Additionally, we are pleased to announce that Cellardoor Winery, Eighteen Twenty Wines, Sweetgrass Urban Farm, Portersfield Cider, and Blue Lobster Wine Company will be at the front gate to greet guests. For the first time, these Maine wineries (with more to be announced) will be introducing everyone at Different Roads to the flavors, styles and class of wines that are unique to Maine and an important contributor to the State’s culinary identity.
